What happens when we stop treating AI as software and start treating our companies as cognitive factories?

At CRExCLT last week, I spoke to a room of executive leaders through that shift: from Industrial Age factories to AI Age cognitive factories. From linear planning to exponential change. From asking for "AI use cases" to realizing that every AI conversation is really an operating-model conversation.
A few ideas that I shared:
→ Mediocrity is now effectively free.
When average output is cheap and abundant, the only things that compound are quality, judgment, proprietary data, workflow design, and trust. Everything else is commodity.
→ The real work is redesigning flows, not chasing models.
The hard part isn't getting access to the latest GPT-x. It's re-wiring how deals, projects, and operations actually move through your organization.
→ "Bits meet atoms" when assets become machine-readable.
Once buildings, tags, work orders, inspections, and technicians live in a coherent data and workflow fabric, agents stop being toys and start doing real work in the field.
→ AI moves at the speed of trust.
Deepfakes, hallucinations, and opaque automation are the gating factor on how far and how fast we can push autonomy.
When intelligence is abundant, what becomes rare?
When answers are free, what is the price of asking the right question?
When everyone has the same model, what makes your company different?
We have spent a century optimizing for output.
The next one will be about deciding what is worth our attention, our trust, and our time.
Until next time,
Ram
