(𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 + 𝗔𝗜) × 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗲 = 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲

(𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 + 𝗔𝗜) × 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗲 = 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲

I use AI constantly, including frontier models and tools that are still pre-release. It is an extraordinary privilege to experience this technology while it is evolving so rapidly.

For me, 𝗔𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿.

Years of working across technology, AI, data, finance, business, research and writing have given me a large collection of mental models, questions, intuitions and connections. AI gives me an new instrument for putting all of that experience to work.

I use it to accelerate research, test hypotheses, explore ideas from multiple angles, challenge assumptions and move from a question to a working concept dramatically faster.

When I wrote my 2024 book 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲, exploring AI × philosophy, I dialogued with frontier models from Anthropicc, Google DeepMind, OpenAII and Meta, and even included transcripts. I built a “digital twin,” 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗕𝗢𝗧, who has since represented me at conferences. I also used AI while developing a fiction project inspired by real-world cyberthreats and ancient Indian mythology.

AI has turbocharged the way I think, create and experiment.

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀: “𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀?”

The tools are extraordinarily powerful, and I have enormous respect for the engineering teams building them. A meaningful part of the results also comes from the thinking, judgment, curiosity and experience I bring to the interaction.

This is why I think experience matters more in the age of AI.

𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆.

For someone early in their career, AI can become part of that process. Use it to explore unfamiliar subjects, ask better questions, test your understanding, examine competing perspectives, practice new skills, get feedback and accelerate the cycle of experimentation and learning.

The same applies to all of us.

𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆: reading, questioning, reasoning, creating, testing , making mistakes and developing our own mental models.

AI can become part of that practice.

Our experience, judgment, curiosity, questions and accumulated understanding can become more valuable with. We can put them into a conversation with systems capable of exploring an enormous space of possibilities at extraordinary speed.

We are learning what becomes possible when human experience meets machine intelligence.

And I believe the people who get the most from AI will be those who 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁.
